A Letter To Loneliness

She wrote a letter to Loneliness

And licked the seal with one,

Darting lash of her tongue.

A blank envelope stared back.

‘Where are you?’

She wrote inside,

‘I’ve been searching

In the crevices

Of quiet corners

For your silence’.
‘I checked

On the stools

Of abandoned bars,

Beneath the stage

Of a million stars,

And all I found

Was Company.’

The address line collected dust.

So she set down the letter again

And took up her pen

To fill a new space

(As she always does.)
